switched ignition lead for choke?
I'm using a carb with an electric choke and as a temporary solution I am running the hot lead for the choke straight to the battery and then just disconnecting it when I have to car turned off.
I'm wondering what I could use as a switched ignition lead to turn on the choke only when the key is turned on. I want to try to use some of the wiring that already exists under the hood. maybe one of the alternator wires on a wire from the elctric fan(dual fan set-up) My carb manula specifically states not to use the hot lead from the distributor so please don't suggest that.
Is there a switched lead at the alternator or the electric fan?
Thanks
Hodge

There's a spot on your underdash fuse block marked IGN that will provide the switched power source you need. Use a male quick-disconnect terminal and some 14 gauge wire to run to the terminal on the choke housing.

I wanted to try to use some of the wires already near by to minimize the mess from wires all over the place. Thanks for the reply though.

Yeah, but the hot lead to the coil is the only switched power source under the hood...

well since my electric fan shuts off at the instance that I turn off the car, one of those must be switched. There is a switched lead going to my fuel pump relay but that is all tied up inside my fender well and I'd rather not mess with it.
the alternator and electric fan wiring is about all I have access to. I'll guess I'll stop being lazy and get out the volt meter and find which one is switched at the fan relay and tap into that.
Just thought that someone here might have already done and could tell me which one it is.
:nono: on me for being lazy.

What was your car when it came from the factory?
How much has the underhood harness been hacked up?

To Know how the engine is wired, you need to tell us what kind of engine the car came with- LG4, L69???
The power to the Temp switch/Fan relay coil is "switched". The fan Motor power is always Hot thru a fuselink, but switched by the fan relay.

it was originally a LB9 305 TPI. The computer is still in it. I have a fan switch on the pass side head. Pass side fan comes on when car gets up to temp. Drivers side fan does not(no temp sensor for ECM to read) I am going to wire them together to but come on via the temp switch in the pass head.
I really just need to know which wire going into the fan relay is the "switched" power. Nothing I can't figure out if I ever find time to work on the car. having a job that requires a lot of travel really sucks when you want to be home working on the car.
Thanks
