Could use your help!!

Hello,
I will get right to my problem. I use a 1986 Chevrolet 1/2 ton to pull my car around on my trailer and it had a 305 in it until I spun a bearing. So I bought a 350 short block and put vortec heads with Edelbrock 7116 performer RPM intake. The cam is a summit with duration at 262 intake and 272 exhaust. Lift is intake 420 and exhaust 442. Summit cam number is SUM-1102. Timing is at 10 degrees advance. I also installed headers with 2 1/4 dual exhaust. I had bought a model number 0-80457S Holley 600 cfm carb and used it out of the box on the 305 and it worked fine. It has primary jet size at 65 and secondary at 70 (#39 plate). The shooter is a 31 and uses a orange pump cam. The secondary spring is black. The engine runs good at lower speed and when accelerating slowly but when you are cruising along and need to pass someone you can hear it really pulling in the air put it don't gain speed. Then if I let up on it will actually start to pull itself better. What am I doing wrong or missing here? I don't remember having this much trouble putting on a out of the box carb on other engines? Any information would be a big help as I need my pickup for my job also. If you need any further information let me know. Thanks Dennis

Is the carb Mechanical or Vacuum Secondary?

It is Vacuum secondaries. I just am getting my *** kicked by this engine. Explain this if you could, when I rev it up sitting still in the garage it will get to about 2500 rpm and then just stop reving. It will also blow gas and air back out of the carb horn. I am just getting rather confused with this thing. My 350 in my car never gave these kind of problems.

At first I was thnking towards the rubber line between the frame and fuel pump being bad and whether having a kink or collapsing shut.
But then you say it pops back around 2.500 and spits back which sounds more ignition/electrical. Crossfiring/arcing possibly when the advance curve in the distributor starts to come up.
Carb/fuel issues wouldn't be that consistent.
