edelbrock help please

some specs. 350/5 speed edelbrock 600 #1406 can't remeber the ecaxt cam number but it's nothing wild i few above stock.timing is set at 8* btdc, flame thrower dist with new plugs and wires.edel.fuel pump heads if i remeber are GM 72CC 2.02/1.60

now here's the problem at idel (850-900) rpm it runs rough and sounds like it missfiring if i step on it,it will spit and spudder 9 times out 10 it will die with a big'o black clould coming out of the carb.a/f gauge says it 's running rich like two to four bars above stouch<---sp (10 bars total)but if i put a vacume gauge on it bounces no it flutters between 11 12 but once it gets above 2000 rpms everthing smoothes right out vacume and holds steady,a/f leans right out about right in the middle

things i've tried, moving time all around, adjusting the vavles, playing with the idel mixurte screws, moving accelerater pump rod between the three holes.all of these things did help.

open to most all suggestion except "get a holley" i know edelbrock aren't the best carbs but money is getting tight, you try driving a hemi with these gas prices plus this is my first "performence carb" and i here that edelbrock is a easier carb to work on and it came with the car

thanks in advance

Ignore the A/F gauge and use the vacuum gauge to set the idle mixture.

yeah that's how i oringally set it but now that i think of it i was closer to 17hg last summer before i put up early becuase it was running badly i'll have to see if i can get those numbers up tomarrow also forgot to mention that once it gets above 2000 rpms it wont stumble as much maybe a spit second then takes right off
