question about idle when under load
I have an 87 camaro with an LG4 and an E4ME carb. The air conditioner on my car wasn't working at all a few weeks ago and my car ran a performed fine. Since then i fixed my ac and when it is on, the idle is pulled down by the compressor being on. When I pull out of a place with even a small hill my car tries to stumble a little with the idle pulling down. This only happens when the ac is on and the compressor is running. I adjusted the idle stop solenoid so that it would hold the idle when the ac is turned on but it still stumbles ,pulling the idle down, when i pull out of those small uphill grades. Also when I put the car in gear at all times even without an extra load on the engine the car seems to "jump" into gear. It really isn't smooth at all when I move it from park to reverse or drive. I think it has something to do with the idle because when it is put in gear the tach goes from about 1000-1110 to 750. Is it supposed to pull the engine down so much when you put it in gear. My transmission shifts fine so it shouldn't have anything to do with that. If it isn't supposed to pull the engine down so much what compensates for the idle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
