If you can, try and post more info, like what cam you have now, rear gear ratio, stall speed, cylinder heads and what are your goals. Daily driver? Street/strip? Race only? What kind of headers do you have? (primary diameter and length) For my 383 I was "realistic" from the out set. I wanted lots of torque (why I went for more cubes) and I wanted it at an rpm I'd actually see on the street since it is my daily driver. It will rarely, if ever, see a strip. Knowing that I selected a mild cam that has a power band in a range I will actually see, not something that is making power at 5500rpm+. I just did an LT4 HOT cam which is quite mild in a 383 and I think it is a fun, easy to live with combo. To go with that I went with Edelbrock heads that have high port velocity to increase torque at the expense of high rpm power, but high rpms will hardly ever be seen so it was a worthwhile trade off. For an intake I went with a dual plane (Performer PRM) since that is consistent with my original goals and I have gone through a few carbs, right now I have a Q-Jet but I will soon have a holley VS to play with. My overall goal was to make the car as fun as possible to drive daily. And while I am still working out some little things, I feel like I have accomplished that goal quite well. Anyway, post more info and I think there will be better informed recommendations as a result.

To swap you'll need a carb, FP regulator, new ditributor (mechanical), and an intake. Then you'll need to tinker and tune; throttle cable bracket, jetting, timing, etc.
FWIW, you can support over 300 hp w/the CFI intake by porting it...all for the cost of a plenum lid gasket and intake gaskets. It's an increadible bang-for-the-buck imporvement that CFI offers simply because the manifold in stock form is so bad. I personally advocate doing that, as you retain the advantages of EFI. JMHO.

I don't know if you have an Automatic Transmission or not, but if you do, you will need some way to lock up the converter (if you have a locking converter)
