need help

hi everybody this is my first time posting. I recently bought a 84 trans am with a lg4 engine and a rocheters quadrajet. The car was running terrible so i went ahead and got a carb rebuild. I also did the timing. The car runs a bit better but at idle its never constant it either revs at 750 or it could go up to 1500rpm. we (my mechanic and i) tried adjusting it but we cant get to be stable. Yesterday i also removed alll the emission stuff but it was doing that when everything was on. So if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. I also find that the four barrel doesnt alway kick in right. I heard it opens up with vacumm.

I was having the same problem of my TA idling funny.....sometimes at 700 and then it would rev way up to about 1500.....and anywhere inbetween.....I had rebuilt my original carb, and it kept doing it....I purchased a rebuilt carb and that carb was worse....then I went back to the shop and told them and they got me another one and that one seems to run just fine at 700 rpm. So just beware......3rd time was the charm for me...

Do a search under the name of RB83L69. I know he has an L69 vacuum diagram (the only difference between that and the LG4 is the dual air snorkel). My guess is vacuum leak. Spray carb cleaner on all the vacuum lines. If you hear a change in idle, you've found the leak. Don't forget the PCV and EGR systems.

The diagram is posted on the FAQ forum.
