quad to holley
Ok, so I have like 4 holleys 1850, (4160 I guess) sitting around. And I am running the feedback quad. Now, my ? is this:
I ditched the computer, and I think that I'm running really rich. I want better fuel econ (6 mpg) so instead of getting a non-feedback quad, I think I'll put one of the holleys on. I know that I'm gonna have to rebuild it, but the best thing is that all of them have different features. One has a electric choke, and I forget what else. Anyway, the quad really bogs, and has a bit of an off idle flat spot. I was wondering what improvements I'll see?
Will I get better miliage? (I know that there is more factors involved than just a carb)
Oh, one last thing, The motor is a 355 with stock style, forged pistons, 882 heads that have been ported, 194s and 150s, Crane Compucam with like 216 dur. at 050 for the intake, and like 218 or 220 for the exhaust, Edelbrock Performer mandifold, and a computer controlled dist. (which will soon be replaced with a vaccum advance dist. both HEI)
Thoughts??

Well, with no computer but still running the CC carb and Distributor, its no wonder you are getting bad gas mileage. Why did you pull the computer in the first place, was the an electrical problem? The CC Qjet wont function properly without the Computer, at all. Same with the distributor, it has to have the computer to work right. You need to change the distributor and the carb at the same time.
As for the rest of the combo, the performer is nothing more than a stock replacement manifold, you would do better with a RPM when you change carb and dist. The cam sounds alright, a little mild, probably ground with a 112 LSA or higher. The biggest killer for the rest of your package is the 882s. With the best port job they still dont flow great, and it is next to impossible to get compression without domed pistons (which suck in thier own right).
First things first though, get the right carb and dist. combo on. Mixing and matching CC and Non-CC parts without a Computer isnt a good thing for performance.

My current plans are to change the dist. to a vaccum advance HEI, and ditch the stock ign. module, and add an msd 6a. Plus I have a THM 350 to swap in, and then the change to the holley.
Oh, and BTW, this is for my '73 Nova. I know that this is the wrong board for this ride, but the other board doesn't have as much info.
But, this motor was originally built for my '82 T/A wich I had to dump. That's why I have the 882s, and the cc carb and dist.
Sorry about the deviation.

First things first, ditch those 882s before you even worry about performance, cause it just aint gonna happen with those on there. But, thats not really the point of the post, or is it? The th350 is a good trans, what I run in mine too.
