Fuel pump
Ok, I have read a bunch of info on the site and want to make sure what I am about to do is right.
I have a 87 Z-28 that I have placed a carburated 350 into. The motor runs/idles fine, however, there is a significant delay of horsepower on hard acceleration. The car darts fairly well on 2 barrels, yet when floored I have about a 4 second delay before the car really thrusts foward. I've checked out everything, including linkage, choke, etc. and the delay seems too significant to simply be a filter issue. My only guess is that the car has an electric tank-mounted fuel pump which the manual pump on the motor is trying to pull through. I have an 84 parts car that I am going to pull the tank from if neccessary. From what I have read, all I have to do is pull the electric pump and replace it with the carb pickup or even hose. Does this sound like the right step? Thanks in advance all.

Welcome aboard.
No, it doesn't sound right at all.
What carb are you running?
Sounds to me like a "bog" problem, where the secondaries are too lean when first opening. A fuel delivery problem, which is what you would be "fixing" by doing what you suggest, would be evident as a power loss under sustained WOT load after initially pulling just fine.

The carb is an edelbrock 600 that mounts to a matched medium rise intake. The motor was in my 78 camaro and ran with no hesitation, which is the reason for my confusion. The motor dropped in with no problems, save the transmission adjustments. Could it be something as simple as a fuel filter? I havent made any adjustments to the carb whatsoever since pulling it from the 78. Thanks again, Ive got all the info on the car, just shoot me some questions and I'll respond as best I can.

What are you using for an air cleaner? Same thing as on the '78?
Same ignition set-up?

Is the transmission and gears, the same,
donor car to newer car?
.
For an experiment, you might try changing the lever
to less accellorator pump, that might give you
a clue, what is wrong.

Yes, the Air Cleaner is the same, the entire package has been transplanted. As far as gears, this car has the stock 3.08, whereas the 78 had the 3.42. To elaborate a bit on the problem:
I cannot floor the car on takeoff, as the car doesnt have the traction neccesary for this. So, the problem that I am experiencing really occurs while at driving speeds. I am traveling at 30mph and the car is pulling as it should be, once floored however, I hear no change in motor tone and experience the delay in response. The linkage seems to be in tact, as when the car is on or off, I can see the secondaries opening and closing fine. lol, I am a kid in a candy store....I bought the candy and can merely open it.
