Holley Red Fuel Pump confusion!

mods, feel free to move this if i didnt put it in the right place, i figured this was a good place for it. alright, i just baught a holley red electric fuel pump for my 89 350. i went ot install it today, and after drilling holes for mounting, running the wire i was ready to install. i put the bolts through the holes that came with the package, and tried had it all mounted, but the bolts are tapered at the end, adn the nut only goes on a few turns. why is this? im new at this stuff, and i cant figure it out. i dont want to tighten down the nuts too hard, so i dont strip the threads. i tried to call holley and talk to a tech there, but i tried for an hour, and the line was busy the whole time, so im resorting to you guys. oh, and genious me lost the directions, have NO IDEA where i put them when i opened it the first time. what am i doing wrong? thanks in advance.

I suspect the mounting bolts that came with your pump are self tapping tapered bolts. You could buy 1"X 5/16" bolts, washers, and nuts and use them instead.
