Holley float troubles
ok heres whats going on. I had installed the carb this afternoon, and was fine tuning the float levels, i was trying to lower the level in the front fuel bowl and it wouldnt lower, I kept turning the adjustment nut and 1 of 2 things happend the fuel didnt lower, or it rose. so i loosend the screw and turned the nut several rotations clockwise and counterclockwise, all that happend was that the fuel rose so high that i coulnt jude its level. so i removed the sight plug to try and drain some of the fuel to see if adjusting the nut would help. again nothing happend. so I tried taking out the adjustment screw all together to see if it would somehow reset the float, and now all i see is an empty fuel bowl. is there any way i can fix this or am i going to have to get a new carb?

This is how I set my floats
1. Make sure fuel pressure is 6-8psi with the engine running.
2. Remove sight plug on bowl I'm working on.
3. Loosen set screw.
4. Turn nut clockwise to lower or counter-clockwise to raise the level close to where I want it.
5. Once it's close, I make small adjustments and rev the engine twice after each adjustment to drop the level and see where it's at after it stabilizes.
I set my float level to where the fuel just barely dribbles out. With a stock or near stock cam I set it level with the bottom of the plug hole.

Assuming your running an electric pump, check the fuel pressure and make sure it's not over 8psi. Do this without it running right now. You need to make sure that there isn't too much and it's over-powering the needle and seat. Then let the car sit for awhile. When you come back adjust your floats down like 5 turns. Try to start the car then. If it won't start fairly quickly hold the pedal to the floor and try again.

holley float adjustment
I couldnt adjust my float on the primary side.
I just posted this and no response but maybe
this will help.
Check the adjustment nut if you havent already it could
be stripped.
Mine was stripped so it wouldnt turn adjustment screw,
I tried to adjust by hand with the engine off
but I over did it and the level was way to high and most
of the fuel drained out of the bowl.
Perhaps there is some kind of drain-relief valve for safety purposes, because I couldnt keep the car running.
It would shut off if I let off the throttle.
I did get it back to where it was, I had to keep my foot on
the throttle until the fuel filled up the float bowl again.
Now Im trying to get another adjustment nut without
having to purchase a kit. Still no responses.

Take the needle and seat back out, sounds like you possibly have a tiny peice of junk keeping the needle from fully seating allowing fuel to pass through and keep raising the floats.
Seen this happen many times so it's not uncommon, if you dont have a good fuel filter installed yet, do so now as it's does'nt take much at all to hang it open.
