Well we are wrapping up the carb swap on my buddy's 91 RS 305 and we got the fuel pump issue sorted out, but what is funny is that when we removed the ecm from the car, it would not start, the starter didnt even click. Plug it back in and it turns over and starts up no problem. How can I totally remove the ecm? what wire is needed to be hot wired? This thing doesnt need the computer any more.

i too attempted to remove the ecm when i did this same swap in my 91 bird... the only thing that i found i was having trouble with was the fuel pump would not run.

unfortunately, in order to get the pump to run, you have to jump a couple wires on the harness. the ecm outputs 12v+ i believe to the relay to turn the fuel pump on. with the ecm removed, this doesnt happen, even when the key is turned on.

i'm not really sure why you would have an issue with no igition thought, i remmeber still having spark with the ecm removed, just no fuel.

i too have removed the ecm and had the fuel pump prob but not the starter. the purple? wire should still get power without the ecm. this wire is the trigger wire to engage the starter. can you jump the starter by hand? is it possible it is related to a nuetral safety switch? my car has an aftermarket shifter so im not sure if it makes a difference. ill check on the color of the wire tm to make sure im not telling you wrong. good luck

Maybe it has something to do with the VATS system and the pass KEYS that GM put on the newer camaros. The ECM does not take up any space, I say you guys just leave it in there, cut the sensor wires you don't need and run it like that. That's what I did.

Another problem that people have when converting, is the fuel pump will prime but not run after the car has been started. The oil pressure sending unit that is above the oil filter acts as a backup switch to power the fuel pump in the event of a catastrophic ECM failure. It will keep the fuel pump running as long as there is more than 5 psi of oil pressure. You could by-pass the feature but it is good to have in the event you have an accident. Or if the engine stalls it will cut your fuel supply.

I had no problems with my 1992. Just disconnected the ECM, everything else fine and dandy with carb opserations - starts and runs, everytry, no problems.
