Question regarding edelbrock carb's (how to adjust)

Question regarding edelbrock carb's (how to adjust)
Already gone through the manual on their website but what I'm looking to do is tune the carb to help me pass emmissions (so i need it as lean as possible while still drivable). What screws adjust what, what do I need to adjust, how do I know its adjusted right? Thanks,

I thought an Edelbrock guy would have chimed in.
What to adjust depends upon where in the RPM and/or load range you're having issues. If it's idle, then adjust the idle mixture. If it's cruise, adjust the main jetting. If you've been through their web manual, then you should know which is which. I don't, because I haven't had any motivation to figure their carbs out.

i have been messing around with my 600cfm edelbrock carb all summer and i still dont think i have it right. Next buildup gets a holley...

do you need the secondaries to pass the test?
if not, think about wiring the air valve shut
make sure the choke is completely open

in the book you got with the carb there should be a chart that will tell you were the carb is at factory settings. and it also has settings to show you how to go leaner and richer. i would recomend going two stages leaner. there it will tell you what # jets and metering rods to use.. and also make sure the choke is working properly. hope this helps. what # carb is it? u also need to adjust the screws in the front of the carb to the max vaccum, this is done buy turning the screws slowly out or in and watching a vaccum guage till you see the vaccum stop moving, then go to the other side and repeat, once you get the vaccum to the higher turn both screws 1/4 turn. this is after you change out the jets and metering rods. if you have the 1405 carb i would recomend going with the 1427 (.098)jet and 1457 (073x052) metering rods. let me know for sure the carb u have and i will see if i can help you out with that carb.
