Rebuilding is little more than disassembly, cleaning, replacing wear items (gaskets, needle, seat, etc.) and resetting basic adjustments. The parts should cost less than $30 and it can be done in an afternoon.
A rebuilt one runs around $350 and it'll probably cost you close to that to get someone to rebuild yours, if you can find someone willing. I'd try it myself then go for the rebuilt one as a last resort.
If, however, you're dead set on getting someone else to do it, make sure you have them install it properly tuned.

A rebuild kit costs somewhere between $20-$40 retail. A new float will be less than a $10 upper. The special tools needed to make adjustments run less than $10. A can of good carb cleaner to soak the metal pieces in during the rebuild is about $15 (and will last for several rebuilds). If you don't have an air compressor, a can or two of spray carb cleaner to blow out the passages after soaking the parts in the carb cleaner above are about $4 each.
To properly adjust the carb after reassembly, you'll need a high impedance multimeter (which describes most digital multimeters) and a dwell meter. The $100 price does not sound like a "full" carb rebuild, including the necessary adjustments after reinstalling on the car. Of course, if you trust the person charging you $100 to do the reassembly properly, you can do the final adjustments yourself with a multimeter and dwell meter.
What I've heard on the Board is more like $300-$400 to rebuild the carb and adjust it, about the same price for a parts store rebuilt carb for which you'll have to do the final adjustments yourself.
