Intake choice

The carb has come off. It had more leaks then a soaker hose. I figured I could do a little better. I am a HVAC mechanic and have been trying to figure out what to do with all the metric tools. Have question though, i am going to rebuild engine at some point. So I am upgrading parts and will cont to use after rebuild. This will minimize price shock. I want a new intake but I dont want to do major mod work. I looked at Edlebrook at local parts store today but service person was too stoned to answer simple questions, like price, so I am still looking. Any advice.

i am guessing that this is still the 305? i would jsut do a eldelbrock performer or a eldelbrock performer rpm. they are nice intakes and i have had both on several of my old street motors. hope that helps

Performer EPS or RPM would be a good choice IMO if you use a squarebore carb, or the RPM Qjet if you use a spreadbore carb.

Having at one time used a "performer" manifold on a 305 with all Ca. smog, Id go with a performer again. Also a RPM or RPM air gap won't fit under a stock hood with a stock air cleaner assembly.

There are a couple of things you didn't mention in your post like weather or not this is the original engine and also if emmisions are required where you live.

If it is the original motor and you are in an emmisions state you are somewhat limited on intake choices. The only 2 intakes that I have found that fit 1987-up center bolt style heads AND have EGR are the Edelbrock performer #3706(about $200 at summit or Jegs) and Holley #510-300-64 (about $150). If anybody knows any others that are a direct fit please chime in.

If you don't need your EGR hooked up there are more options like performer RPM and others. You can also use the '86 and earlier style intakes if you elongate some of the bolt holes.
