Yes, they came with a fuel pump on the block. Some also came with an additional in-tank pump. Not exactly sure what you mean by "getting around" the computer. The main things the computer controls are the carburator, timing, and the torque convertor clutch lockup. Not sure if you want to "get around" the computer when it controls all of these things. The computer system is not what's holding you back, it's the cam and exhaust.

Exactly. Don't waste your money trying to "get around" something that works just fine if you do the other things that will actually make a difference.

Go ahead and change the engine. We're advising you to keep the carb.

That's basically what I did. ~360 FWHP. With that kind of performance, why bother changing the carb?

Keep the carb. Rebuild it if need by, but a quadrajet is a superior carb.

In my opinion, the Quadra jet is a superior carb. Stock these carbs are rated at 750-850cfm (and easily trickable to 800 to 1000cfm) These mass produced carbs have stronger cruise booster signal for better MPG, and on demand secondary activation to prevent over carbing. The smaller primaries and huge secondaries are ideally suited for a dual plane intake manifold which effectively divides the carb in half. There is no better carburetor for a street driven vehicle. Drawbacks: These carbs are far more difficult to tune properly than a holley. The air horn needs to be removed from the carb to adjust needles and jets.

If on the slim chance the isn't doing it for you, read this.
