I have a 1984 Trans Am, 305 automatic. It is a Canadian car, so non cc carb with vacuum advance distributor. My quadrajet is clapped out and not many mechanics around here even know what a carb is much less how to rebuild it and tune it. I have a chance to get a Holley 4175 for a pretty good price. So the question is, will this carb work with the 700R4 transmission I have, or will it be a headache to make it work? Also how will the mileage be with the Holley? This car is just a cruiser on the weekends with no high speeds involved. I had a previous car with an Edelbrock 1406 and although it worked well the fuel mileage was nothing to write home about. Are there any other carbs I should look at that are bolt on and drive away? Remeber, no racing, just letting the wind blow thru whats left of my hair.

quadrajet is a good carb. if its shot or no body can rebuild it you can get a rebuilt from jegs, summitt ect. i like holly and edelbrock also but then you have to deal with throttle and tv cable adapters. mpg and performance is all in the know how of tuning the perticular carb. a few guys can make a quadrajets do wonders most cant.

Yea, if you're comfortable learning about the q-jet, go nuts. It might be rebuildable, or you can get a core from the JY that is. I went that route.
But if you don't thoroughly enjoy learning about it, then the holley would work. The 4175, is that a square bore? Might need an adapter then. And of course, the tv cable modification, etc.

Summit/jet etc have the reman q-jets for a decent price, not sure what you'd be paying for that holley piece though.
