Q-jet sounds like ur best bet. Do a search on google, TONS of info on how to performance tune ur q-jet. A double pumper will burn a hole in ur wallet, a regular holley still will hurt you a bit, but a q-jet is very reliable performance. If you really dont like the q-jets, try to keep it around 725-750 cfms, im not a fan of edelbrock, although alot of ppl still use them. Holley is a very proven, easy to tune carb as well.
But a q-jet is very gas freindly, easy to rebuild, cheap for parts, and if u build it right, it will pack a hell of a punch.

i personally like the edelbrock performers. they arent too bad on gas and the general design is good. plus you can changes metering rods and springs without taking it apart and you can change jets without the hassle of spilling gas just by taking the top cover off.

This is my personal opinion, but I have the best luck with hollys performance wise, the street avenger looks good and performs well, but I also find the edelbrock to deliver exelent economy, I love the holley for its universal abilitys for vacuum secondarys or go to a boublr pumper for the extra fuel and tunability, I think they look better also.

I'd go with Edelbrock 650 or 700 cfm.
I have had all three carbs before on Camaros in my day. Best on gas would be the Quad, best performance would likely be a tuned Holley. Best all around would be the Edelbrock for ease of tuning and for your stated application.
