Hey everyone, I joined this site when my Fiance built her engine for her 84
z28. I have a chevy truck and I am a member of several truck site's but I think you all get a little more into detial with the engine stuff. I have a 350 that had a cc q-jet and dist. I am wiating to install my non-cc dist and edelbrock 1406 carb and 2101 intake. I just wanted to know if this will take care of the truck idleing high and backfireing? Also what is the fast idle circuit for carbs? Does my carb have this? Any adjustment tips once I get it all installed? Your website rock's. Love 3rd gens.

The fast idle is a separate cam that is engaged with the choke. On the q-jet, it's on the passenger side under the choke thermostat housing. I'm not familiar enough with the Performer carbs, but most likely it's in a similar location.
This carb downgrade should take care of high idle and backfiring problems if they are being caused by the carb or distributor. High idle is most likely a choke that isn't opening up. Backfiring could be related to that, although it is typically caused by a lean mixture or poor ignition.
If the backfiring is being caused by improperly adjusted valves or burnt intake valves, changing the carb & distributor won't help anything.

my performer the choke cam on the drivers side got stuck and was not allowing the throttle to return all the way... see if you have a gap between your adjusting screw on the trottle linkage.
