Holly carb

Ok guys I have a 87 lt with a 350, stock manifold with a holly dual feed, not sure of the cfm's nor have I been able to find a number on the carb, the carb came with the car when I got it. Well up until about 20 minuites ago everything seemed to be fine other then a slight bog on acceleration and what seemed to be a starvation problem at wot in 2nd gear, well I take it for a ride today and it is so bad that upon acceleration it boggs so bad it dies I manage to get it home and it dies in my driveway, to the point that I thought something was seriously wrong, I finally got it running agian but it continues to do this horrible bog to the point I wont even take it out of the driveway, now the carb seems to be a newer holly, looks to be fine so I start spraying some carb cleaner around the outside of it to check for leaks and I find a huge leak all the screws in the top of the carb are loose so I tightened them up and pray that my problem is solved but no such luck, I adjusted the mixture screws and other than that I really dont have any idea where to go from here, 1 other thing, when I run the mixture screw on the pass side of the carb all the way in the car dies when I do the same with the screw on teh driver side nothing changes, the car seems to have absolutly no reaction to the the mixture screw on the driver side could this be part of my problem?

Thanks ahead of time

Something I just realized about this carb is that its like no other holly I have ever seen, the float bowls are not removable it does not have a center body like most holley's, the top of it covers both float bowls so in escence the top of the carb is the float bowl, the more I am looking at this carb the more I am thinking it is the problem!

It sounds like a 4010 serries functions like the 4160 but was cast in less pieces it is the same but in a diffrent form. The # should be on the choke tower post it and I will give you the info.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
If it's a 4010, it's NOTHING even remotely like any otehr kind of Holley. Those were a POS. THey didn't last too long, Holley discontinued them after only a few years of production. Get rid of it, if it's got problems, and get something else.

SOunds to me like a combination of 2 things: a stopped-up fuel filter, from rust or dirt or whatever, in the tank; and, some of the gunk managed to get past the filter and is now stuck in a passage in the carb.

In my experience when u turn the idle screws in and nothing happens, it's a blown power valve. Your accelerator pump was probably out of adjustment (your slight bog) and backfired threw the carb blowing the valve. ....Just a thought

Dirty you took the words right out of my mouth, I was just telling my wife (not that she really cares) that when it backfired I bet it blew out the power valve, I have identified the carb as a 4010 found the numbers finally and I hear what your saying about this being a pos carb, kinda figured when I had never seen one like it and I have been wrechin on cars for the better part of 20 years now (just getting back into with my first 3rd gen always wanted to build a sbc) but here is my dilema, one.. im broke and two a re build kit is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new carb, so unless someone out there has a carb that they are willing to sell me for 45 dollars plus shipping (summit) that does not need a re build I think I am pretty much stuck. So that being said if there is anyone out there that is running one of these carbs or has re built one before that can throw a hint or two my way on what to look out for that would be great but please dont just tell me its a pos and get rid of it cause at this point that will not help any.

Thanks agian as always this board and the people on it are the shiat!
