had a scary day!

so i just got the trans rebuilt for my camaro, and while it was out i decided to swap the intake, change the fluids, you know a tune up. anyway forgot to mark where the distributer was..... so im trying to start it right and it back fires through the carb shoots a huge flame ball and lil do i know there was a small gas leak that pooled on the intake next thing you know me and a buddy are putting out a fire lol. but my question is is the backfire just from bad timing or is the carb bad? also the intake is an inch taller and the old throttle cable and kick down cable doesn't fit it. the new one i got doesn't work either it makes the kick down to far back. im charging the cam batteries right now then ill take pics to show and see if you guys have any idea.

Re: had a scary day!

VERY advanced, i did the same to mine exept i marked mine but when i droped it back in the oil pump must have moved coz it went one tooth out and i had the air cleaner just sitting on the carb.... i hear this BOOM while im cranking it looking at the aircleaner Base plate still on the carb but the filter was in the air about 2" off the base plate and the lid was about 2" above that with flames coming out of every gap. It was one hell of a sight.

just to make shure, test it buy retarding the distributor heaps about 1/8 of a turn then see if she will fire up.
