Re: computer controlled to non computer controlled

You need a distributor with centrifugal and vacuum advance.

Do.

As in vacuum/mechanical advance.

It might not entirely cure the problem, but it's sufficiently wrong that there's no point trying to do anything with the car until its fixed.

In the factory setup, the ECM varies the timing for different operating conditions based on the information from various sensors. You've eliminated the sensors on the carb, so the ECM can't control the timing anymore.

A distributor from an older non-computer controlled vehicle would be a start, or there are numerous aftermarket ones available.

Re: computer controlled to non computer controlled

Yes, the non-computer controlled distributor has a weight and spring mechanism to advance the timing as engine speed increases ("mechanical" or "centrifugal" advance), and a vacuum pot to advance the timing as engine load decreases ("vacuum" advance).
