I bought a "basket case" Quadrajet....all was there but all apart. Bought a rebuilding kit to put it together but it doesn't give measurements/settings for lean idle, idle-air screws etc. It just says to pay attention to where they were when you took them out....I didn't take the mout though!
It was originally a stock carb for an '86 Monte Carlo SS (305)
Anybody have any ideas how I set it right without taking it apart a hundred times?
Thanks

You need some manuals.. (I say this a lot)

Go to the auto parts store. By the manual for the car that you are putting the car on (Camaro, right?) My Chilton's total car care is very thorough and has every spec for every year carburetor in a chart at the back of the fuel section.

There is also a nice Haynes Rochester carburetor manual at advance..

I have manuals. The problem is they reference settings by telling you to count the turns out or in from where it is, which is fine if the carb were together to begin with.
I need more specific help. Like adjusting the lean mixture solenoid screw, the Idle Air bleed valve, the idle mixture needles up front...etc.
Thanks

Re: Quadrajet Expert needed...
Here's where I set them when I start with an unknown quantity. I call it the "rule of 4."

First set the lean stop screw 4 turns up from lightly seated.

THEN set the rich stop to allow 4/32" (1/8") of mixture control piston travel. MUST be done only after you set the lean stop FIRST as both affect how much total travel you have. I do this using a fresh airhorn gasket, properly tightened down with all the screws, in "mock up" before final assembly becuase you might have to take the airhorn off and on several times as you do adjustments. When in "mock up" I just stick a small screwdriver down through the IAB hole to the top of the MC solenoid piston (the "home plate" shaped thing) and make a mark on the shank of the screwdriver with the MC solenoid at both the top and the bottom of it's travel- the distance between those 2 marks is your total travel and that's where you are shooting for 4/32" (1/8").

Set the Idle Air Bypass 4 turns out from lightly seated. Remember to install fresh o-rings on it's body and put a little light grease on them so they don't rip or pull when you screw the IAB valve into it's hole.

Set the idle mixture screws 4 turns out from lightly seated.

It'll get you in the ballpark and then you can do some tweaking, if needed, once you get the carb installed and running on the engine.
