Cable drive speedos aren't affected by removing the ECM.

Electronic drive speedos operate off of a vehicle speed module, input to but separate from the ECM. As long as you leave the harnessing in place that feeds the VSS module, the speedo will operate.

Re: Swapin to Carb

I don't mean to hijack this thread but, I am having trouble with my spedo after replacing the engine and getting rid of the ecm. I'm pretty sure all the wiring is correct. I did a test the other day. I hooked up a drill to the sensor at the trans and spun it and the speed did come off zero. But, at the time I had the buffer box unplugged. I plugged the buffer box back in and it still worked. However, with the car on jack stands and running in gear up to about 3000 RPM the gauge did not work. I checked to make sure the gear is in correctly. Everything looks to be installed correctly. Car was an L03 previously.
