Doing my homework and would love some advice

Hey everyone, first post here. I have been using the search feature in this forum to read up all I can about switching from TPI in a 5.7l 350 to a carb system so I wouldn't have to ask any dumb questions but to no avail. Don't get me wrong, I learned a crap load of new stuff I had no idea about before but I still have a question or two.

So basically I am 21 and I'm gonna start a 4 year long project on a stock 5.7l 350 TPI camaro (waiting until I'm 25 to finish for insurance reasons). I figure my budget is about 10k and I want to do as much as possible myself for my own education and pride. My goal is 500+ HP and the car is going to be mostly street driven but only a fun once or twice a week car not a daily driver and it will be in a storage unit when not driven.

My question is when choosing my Intake and Carb setup (I've decided to go with Holley) how do I sort through the seemingly similar spec sheets on the different models? The holley intake manifolds all seem pretty much the same with the only noticable difference (im looking at the SummitRacing site) being rpm ratings. and even then some are exactly the same but different prices.

The carbs I understand from my searching this forum can be separated into categories by CFM ratings and by the barrels. I know I need a four barrel; but should I go beyond a 850cfm carb and get a 1000+cfm considering my HP goals? I am going to order a performabuilt manual transmission to replace the stock one eventually so I know I am going to need a double pumper carb but the cfm rating I am unclear.

I'm sure I have officially newb'd my pants in front of everyone now but I am just trying to plan out everything I am going to do before I start investing my time and money. Thank you for reading!

For what your wanting for horsepower I would go with a holly bouble pumper and a victor jr. intake.
