Holleys, QJets, and V6's.

Forgive me if this has been covered, but I cant get any info at my 'home' forum

So I had converted my 93 Chevy 1500 to carb with an Edelbrock Performer, HEI distributor, etc. Motor is a stock 4.3L V6.

Originally we tried a Holley 4160 (600CFM, vac secondary) to no avail. Persistent flooding, etc. I guess just too much for too little motor. Pressure regulator (Mallory 4309) was set at 6PSI. It would idle alright until we went down the road, then it would just fuel up and die. Ran fine at 3000+ RPM...

So, we took the carb off. Now its on a friends Cutlass with a Rocket 350...

Now Im on the hunt for a more suitable carb.

Ive been looking at the Holley 470CFM Truck Avenger or a suitable reman Quadrajet. Gas mileage isnt a huge deal as I have a daily, but I dont want to hog a tank of gas going down the street. I hear QJets are easier to get going from the box. Is a Qjet and shorter front to back than an average Holley? My distributor was just barely touching my 4160.

What do you think? If QJet, what kind should I get? Years/motors would be helpful so Id know what to tell the auto parts places.

Any insight would be very helpful. Im just leary to throw more money at this truck without being sure in my intentions.
