carb adapter. need help quick.
i gotta 600 holley. i need an adapter plate that will adapt it to a 1984 quadra-jet manifold. where do i get one at?? i cant find one for a 600.. i only see ones for like 4150 and 4175 and all that.. am i missing something here?? i looked on summit and i dont think i found what im looking for unless im not even sure i KNOW what im looking for. im confused.
Re: carb adapter. need help quick.
Yes, that's what you need. A 600 Holley is a 4150/4160 style carb. A square-bore carb.
However, if I can make a suggestion, forget adapting ANYTHING onto a stock QJet manifold. The 4 holes in the carb flange only match up properly with a QJet. Adapting anything else onto it is like force-fitting a square peg into a round hole. It's a pretty bad mismatch.
The stock QJet manifold is crappy to begin with, from a performance perspective. Add an equally crappy force-fit adapter on top of that and you end up with a pretty terrible combination. It'll work, but you probably won't be very impressed with the end result.
Get a used Edlebrock Performer manifold with EGR provisions (not a Performer RPM) and use that instead. Buy one used in good condition for about $50-60. It'll work a LOT better with that carb and all your stock emissions stuff will still bolt on, if that matters to you. Plus it'll still sit the carb lower than a stock manifold + big fat squarebore-to-spreadbore adapter, so you won't have any hood clearance issues to contend with.

awesome damon, thats exactly what i needed to hear. alright ill buy a used manifold. not worry about emissions lol plan on throwing those in the burn pile lol. but this isnt the engine thats going to be in this car forever. this is just a 305 thats in there till i find a good 350 or 383. i just want an engine so i can enjoy the srping and summer weather lol. will one of these intakes bolt onto a 350 or 383? this is an 84 engine. im sure if i get another engine itll be an 80's type. will the bolt holes be the same?

Yes, it will bolt onto a larger 350/383/400 small block later. The bolt pattern and port locations are the same on all SMall Block Chevys regardless of displacement. Later Vortec heads are different and require a different style of intake, but that applies regardless of what sized motor is underneath those heads. Your 84 engine uses a standard 85-down intake bolt pattern intake.
To pick something up on the cheap you'll need to find a used intake. Most of the intakes in that link are new intakes and that's why you're seeing $100+ prices on them.
