So I am planning on building a 383 stroker and I am just glancing at parts here and there...I see that Summit has a fairly new line of intake manifolds that are labeled stage 1-3 and you can get a stage 3 for under 200 bucks

I was originally planning on getting and Edlebrock Air Gap intake manifold

The summit is cheaper though money is not the biggest issue was just wondering if the edlebrock was worth the extra 50 bucks over the stage 3 summit?

 

No you need to get vtec for your engine first.... Jk read the different specs on each manifold to look for possible ups and downs, i.e. weight, what rpm range each one is rated for, and what kind of headers you can use with each one, then make your decision. And you can always go for flashy show and get namebrand parts with logo's and different finishes, so its really all up to what you are looking to get out of your engine.

 

All Summit SBC intakes are Weiand intakes with Summit's logo stamped into them instead of Weiand's. The stage 2 and 3 are all the latest computer flow modeled generation II Stealth intakes. Weiand's direct competitor to the Edlebrock RPM/AirGap series, and probably every bit their equal. This is one place it's safe to save a few bucks without giving up performance.

 

I have the "professional" products" Air-gap equivilant on my 355.

I had a lot of trouble getting one of the coolent passages to seal completely with several different pipe plugs/teflon tape.

Just be aware that some of the places that are threaded or machined surfaces on the Edelbrock might not be up to the same QC standards a Weiand or Edelbrock on one of the "off" brand intakes. Might also be some casting flash on it too.

Other than that my intake is satisfactory.

 

Chevy High Performance did a manifold flog which included the RPM Airgap and the Summit Stage 3 and what it came down to be is that, yes the RPM Airgap did make more power but it was a negligable 2 peak hp and 3 average. Now something to add in when your figuring this is that the Airgap was made with the vacuum port VERY close to the carb...because when they tested it they used thier own carbs and it works fine...but not so much on a 4150. Now Im not saying its impossible just that its a tight deal. The Summit manifold is not that way, it will not give you a fitment issue in any way.

 

You might also look into Professional Products, intakes I have one of there Crosswind maifolds, witch is like an Air-Gap, And it works very well. And i got it for 149.99 brand new.
