Will dwell read on an inop MCS?

Can the mixture control solenoid still work without making a ticking sound?

I can't hear it quit ticking any more yet performance and MPG are ok. Also I checked the dwell and found it reading a little rich at 27. The dwell corrected to 30 w/ just a tiny adjustment to idle air bleed. Has me wondering

Dwell can't be read or adjusted without the solenoid working.

that's what I was hoping. Maybe the days are limited for that MCS...

Can you hear it with the engine in run, but before it's started?

It's a simple electro magnet solenoid, shouldn't go bad slowly. Perhaps something is muting the sound, piece of gasket or whatever. Does it audibly click when a rod is inserted into the IAB bore (w/IAB temporarily removed)? May want to verify the travel this way too.

It does, however, appear to be working properly by your mileage and dwell response.
