Re: hood clearence

If you buy a drop down breather, you could run a 3" by 14". Looks good and allows plenty of air into your carb.
it'll be a little tight around your distributor but it'll fit!

I just bought a K&N 85-3545 works great with an electric choke and clears the hood

Re: hood clearence

Both replies are by owners of Camaros.....

Maybe they aren't aware that Firebirds have lower hood lines, so clearance is more of an issue with 'birds than Camaros.....And the OP has a 'bird so......

Re: hood clearence

true, the one i mentioned has a 7/8 in. drop, if you know how much clearence your looking for would be easier to help, also if you dont have an electric choke there is another one (K&N 85-3549) with 1 1/4 in. drop that might work, also if your using a thick gasket between your carb and intake you can get ones alot thinner...

Re: hood clearence

its a pretty thin gasket between the carb and intake
i had a 2 1/4 in air cleaner and it hit the frame of the hood not just the matting

im thinkin a 2 1/4 withn maybe a 1/2 to 1 inch drop should do the trick but im not positive

Re: hood clearence

i have a camaro but before i put the drop base on by the time the hood latch was touching the top of the air cleaner was also, mainly at the back of the engine, the 7/8 drop worked great for me
