Little piece of paper somehow found its way past my air cleaner.
Was blocking one of the primary emulsion tubes.
Car would only run right wide open.
Why it didn’t just suck it down and eat it I dunno.
But it did make one heck of a fun day for me.
My poor engine though, I was giving it crap for not running.
I thought it was water in my gas making it run rough, so I filled up to “water” it down then made it run best I could trying to flush it out.
But that piece of paper didn’t budge.
Not till it got flooded did I look down the carb to check it out.
Then found the piece of paper.
So if ya know all your stuff is new and good, and it wont run down low but will up high, take a good look down your carb.

you have to consider the size of paper. not length and width, but the depth. its darn thin and can slide in between the air filter and the cleaner housing.
happens all the time.
glad you got it fixed and posted the problem and solution - gives us a heads up.

Re: Little piece of paper somehow found its way past my air cleaner.
Im discovering all kinds of them simple solutions and all the hard way.
One just before it was if you have problems filling up your tank. like you can't go all out on the handle or it backs up. Your tank vent or vent line to canister is clogged. Its vented like a ***** now.
That one baffled me for some time, ending up with a whole new fuel system to solve my fuel delivery problems as it nosed over on the top end.

Still not sure where the paper came from but I am pretty sure I know how it got in there.
I was on my way home after just getting some gas.
I was getting on it hard but was lifting off quick for a softer shift then back on it, ya know. That off n on action much have set it lose.
But had thought it was cause I just got some el-cheapo gas.
It would of been just far enough away for it to start drinking down the new stuff in full strength [ I was low].

a friend of mine runs a repair shop and he said one time he had a customer whose car had a key fell into the carb and ruined the motor. the customer had the car towed in becasue the engine wouldn't run right and sounded awful. after tearing the engine down to inspect the damage they found the mangled key. the customer kept his spare key taped to the underside of the air cleaner lid and it must have let go sending the key into the engine.

If it managed to slip in around the filter, I'd look at the sealing between the filter & its base/top.
Take the filter out, run a tin bead of silicone around on the top & bottom of the rubber seals. Let it dry OFF THE CAR. Then put it back in.
The soft beads of silicone will help fill in any gaps there might be, creating a better seal.
