I have a edelbrock 1406 carb and i tried tuning it and i put a vacuum gauge on it and i got nothing not even when i revved it and the air/Fuel Mix screws do not affect nothing when i turn them out or in. I believe i need a new carb I am looking for performance and MPG. the engine is a 305 chevy with a weiland performance intake. Hei Disturbutor any help would be very helpful

600 or 650cfm I would say. Edlebrock if that is your brand, but I can't stand mine. I would go with Holley.

look at the top of the tech articles for carburators, you will see edlbrock rebuild information, or you can go to edelbrock.com and download for free the rebuild specs..or youtube has some videos of mechanics rebuilding the carbs ..they are so easy to rebuild, and not expensive for a kit.

I rebuilt a quadrajet with no clue and no help. Just make notes of where adjustable screws and things are set, take it apart, don't lose any pieces, spray a ton of carb cleaner, make sure all the little passageways are clear, put it back together with the new gaskets and parts. Yeah maybe that's a bit oversimplified.
This is the kit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-1477/?image=large Weird it costs almost twice as much as my quadrajet kit and has less in it.

Can't say enough about
http://www.nationalcarburetors.com/
Ordered a carb for my specs, when it arrived all I did was bolt it on, nail it and smile.
For the price they charge, even with the core charge you could resell their carbs for a tidy profit.
You can't beat a well tuned qjet unless you need a carb bigger then 800CMF
Though its best to always have the Doug Roe Qjet performance book, he deisnged the carb for GM.
I also perfer the straight shot inlet of the BOP carbs over the side inlet of the Chevy ones, reguardless of what its for. Putting one on a Ford, straight shot one plz. They also come with the easy adjust base, no special tools needed.
But I have had to do nothing. Though I did install a manual choke on it instead.
