Draining fuel tank
Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to drain the fuel tank. My 3rd gen has been sitting for 5 years and well...yeah.
I'm thinking getting the fuel out from up front would be the best idea?
Lemme know what you guys think.

Some details about your car would be helpful - year, model, engine, induction, modifications, etc.

Yeah..that's true.
It's an '83 305 with the t-5 in it. It's the HO, so it has the carburetor.

Get a $5 syphon from the local hardware store and syphon it out from the rear - as I don't think you have an in-tank pump to pump it out with.

I think I'm just gonna take it out from the front of the car and like jack up the back.

Does anyone have a good drawing or pictures of the manual pump on the 305?

#1 is the supply line from the tank, #2 is the return to the tank, #3 is the outlet to the carb.
Problem with trying to siphon these tanks is the filler neck has the opening into the tank facing up - basically the filler tube enters the tank horizontally, the end of the tube is capped off, and the top of the tube is cut open to allow fuel into the tank. Very hard to get a siphon tube to go to the bottom of the tank.
If your car is the HO, it may or may not have an in-tank electric pump (added late in the '83 model year, as I understand). If it does, you can take the supply line off of the mechanical pump, jumper the in-tank electric to run it, and drain it into a container. If it doesn't, you can try to siphon the gas out of the supply line disconnected from the mechanical pump.

Ok wow. So when I went to drain the oil from the engine, I got gasoline/oil mixture. About 7 quarts of it!!! Is there any chance that my manual pump could be leaking into the crank? It basically smells like gas-old gas!!

A leaking mechanical fuel pump diaphragm is the typical source for gasoline in the oil.

It's the diaphragm that does the actual pumping that leaks.
Just replace the pump.
