Should I run this pump without a regulator?

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/15913...oductId=937089

Title pretty much says it all. I put the pump on yesterday, left the regulator on for the time being and it it seems to run fine. I don't have a gauge at the moment to know exactly how much fuel pressure I'm getting but the book that came with the pump says no reg required for most applications, so should I remove it?

Carb is an edelbrock 750.

Since the reg is on, may as well get / borrow a gauge to make sure pressure is not more than 6-7 lbs
Also check it with the reg opened all the way.
I don't remember what Edelbrock recomends for pressure.

Re: Should I run this pump without a regulator?

I'm thinking I've read they recommend 5.5-6psi but I'm not sure either. The paper that came with the pump says it's preset at 7psi so yeah I guess the obvious answer is just get a gauge and do it right. I was just wondering because of the "Regulator not required" tag.

Thanks.

Re: Should I run this pump without a regulator?

i ran the holley style pump on my sbc with the same carb but it was tuned really well. i never had a problem but sometimes the pump would hit 9-12psi. and i put a filter before the pump because the little rubber wheel in the bottom does not like junk...

that would be a pump ment for a carb, so the regulator isnt required. however its still good insurance since you cant adjust the pressure from the pump without it. its just one more point to fine tune things.

I actually did away with the Regulator earlier. Damn thing cost me a race with a Mustang last night. It was running lean at WOT and the adjustment rounded out when I tried to open it up. Seems to be running ok now.

Yeah I wouldn't really say I lost, I didn't even get out of first before it started choking and he knew something was up so he stopped. We're gonna do it again within the next week hopefully. It's a 2004(I think) 5 speed GT.

Re: Should I run this pump without a regulator?

Ok so I've been running the jegs fuel pump straight to the 750 edelbrock for a while now. I don't really know if this is the cause of the problem but often when i crank the car it doesn't want to idle at first and I have to put my foot in it to straighten it out. After that it's all good. I'm guessing the carb's getting too much fuel?

Check the jets and the air bleeders the jets might be to big and if that don't help the carb itself might be to big maybe you should try a 650

Re: Should I run this pump without a regulator?

I did plan on going with a 650 but I'm actually buying a newer ride soon so I'm not trying to spend too much money on this one at the moment. Being a stock l98 the carb is probably way too big.

Since the car is running fine other than that should I just leave the reg off and assume it's just the carb?
