what did I do!?!?!
so i recently just changed my fuel filter, about 3 or 4 days ago. i found that the carb fitting and the fuel line (metal brake line) were stuck together, so i bought new line and carb fitting. when i pulled the line off of the fuel pump (on the block) it destroyed the fitting on the pump, thus forcing me to get a new pump.
the car ran just fine before i did all this. after i replaced these, the car started and ran just fine for about a day and a half. maybe drove fifteen miles, parked the car, and it wouldn't start again at all, no fire or anything.
i replaced the fuel pump again, assuming i had just received a bad pump. made sure the filter was inserted correctly, lines all hooked up correctly, and no leaks or smell of gas. after i replaced this fuel pump, the engine will start and run for a second or 2, sputters and dies. it will do this EVERY time. any ideas? open to any answers or comments.

I'm assuming this is a Qjet.... did you install the fuel filter correctly? If it was put in backwards, no fuel can get through it unless the fuel pump can overcome the pressure of the spring pushing on the fuel filter. I've seen this happen before, its easy to accidentally install it backwards.

Re: what did I do!?!?!
unless the fuel is not supposed to go from the metal fuel line, through the hole with the little check spring, and out through filter element.
i have been messing around with another filter i bought, and the old one that was in my car. the old one looked like the spring was removed and the plastic piece was put in backwards. It's much easier to blow through that than the one with the spring. could this spring have too much pressure? it is a Qjet, on a new 350 motor with headers and no snorkel air cleaner. would i not be getting enough fuel with that check spring in place?
or will it always flood my carb with out it?

Re: what did I do!?!?!
I had one once that would not allow fuel through until I removed the check ball and spring. I did not put a pressure guage on that system at the time so I don't know if the problem was the check ball or low pressure but it continued to run fine.
The check ball just keeps the fuel in the filter housing from draining back out.

well i went ahead and got a new filter and pulled the spring out, but not the ball. my car started instantly and ran great. who woulda thought... removing a check spring would fix my problem...lol and to think i was pissed about it.
