I don't think you could have asked a more broad question..... whats the engine? Is it the car in your profile? Race or street?

I would say that if you have an engine that needs a Victor Jr...you probably want a double pumper carb. I wouldn't want to mess with adapting a quadrajet to square bore intake. However, if you have an engine that really needs a performer intake and you are throwing a Victor Jr. on there...a quadrajet might be just the band aid for you (small primaries and progressive secondaries).

Hmmmm ..... ,,,,, ......

[sofa makes weighing motions with hands]

Race intake.

Do I pick 30-some-year-old stock smogger carb off of Grandpa's motor home, or a race carb??

I'm really stuck here. I have no sense, so I can't really tell what makes sense.

[more weighing motions]

Whaddya think?

I'm stumped. Let me step aside for a moment and consult my spiritual adviser.

[sofa goes into bathroom; shuts door; long pause; eventually a flush is heard]

[comes back out]

Guru say, race intake, need race carb. Stock smogger sedan carb not bolt to race intake. Wrong flange, wrong bolt pattern.

What a genius!!

Seriously, this is such a no-brainer question, that even I, who am COMPLETELY without a brain, can answer it.

The Q-Jet is a good carb and all, but like most everything, there's a time and a place. This sounds like it is not it.

Unless of course, this is Grandpa's smogger Winnebago motor, and somebody just randomly jammed this otherwise totally inappropriate intake onto it for no apparent reason; in which case, maybe re-thinking the intake would be in order. But we'd need more info to comment intelligently on that. (and some intelligence too wouldn't hurt, maybe somebody else with some of that can help out)

I think thats my favorite Sofa post in months.

Yes it would be nice to know about the engine and whether that intake is even remotely appropriate for it. But the bottom line is square bore intake wants the square bore carb.
