severe hesitation
severe hesitation
ok guys first off im new to 3rd gen org and happy to be apart of it.
second fellas i need some serious help i have an 87 camaro sport coupe cloned into a 92 z 28 minus the engine. for that i have a 305 out of an 85 z-28 with a few things done to the motor (edelbrock performer air gap intake street fire vacuum advance distributor flat top pistons edelbrock performer cam and lifters and timing chain set accel 8.5 millimeter plug wires and header plugs summit shorty headers and so on. to top it off i now have an edelbrock thunder avs 500cfm carb. heres where the trouble begins. just installed it today and fired the car up. supposed to be ready out of the box but i had to reset the idle screws immediately. after i got them set i decided id open the throttle up and see how it acted. it hesitated real bad and nearly stalled the engine but picked up right after that. but every time i open it up it nearly stalls. i checked timing and advance and its fine. before i removed my holley 600 it ran great but never seemed like it opened up like it should. didint hesitate though just acted more like a two barrel carb with a turbo behind it. any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Exactly which cam is it? What are you doing for fuel delivery? Do you have more details on the exhaust system?
Regardless of what you read or hear, they will need some adjustment, and probably tuning, "out of the box".
Details?
Common misconception. When tuned properly, you won't feel the secondaries opening.
I'd say in general the switch from the Holley to the Edelbrock was a downgrade. But, I know there are those who feel differently. Still, it shouldn't be doing this, so it's probably something fairly simple.

Re: severe hesitation
Actually found the problem today. Turns out that the edelbrocks accelerator pump was not working at all. The pump passage is blocked. Called summit racing and they're sending a new one. And I do agree on feeling the secondaries but it just seemed slow to open. Holley.com said the 600 was fine but that I'd have more high end power. Seeing how I generally don't bust it wide open the 500 will should give me more down low. So I suppose it's a downgrade and upgrade at the same time. Sometimes a little sacrifice benefits in the long run.
