help please
my bird is acting like it's not getting any fuel. starts up like a champ, idles just fine, and when its cold, it runs ok. but as soon as the engine starts warming up, if i touch the gas at all, it sputters and dies. i get a steady stream of fuel into my primarys when i give it some throttle, so i don't think its my accelerator pump. the only other thing i can think is that the choke is stuck. needed a tune up anyway so ive replaced the pcv valve, cap, rotor, plugs and wires already, no improvement. have a new edlebrock sittin on the coffee table, but i need her this week and dont have time to change it right now. this started in november before i parked her for the winter and is just steadily getting worse, any advice?

Re: help please
Take the air cleaner off and actually look what your carb is doing. I'm guessing you have the CC-qjet.
See if your electric choke is opening all the way up.
Check your vacuum. See if there's any leaks e.g. good vacuum is around 18" Hg.
See if your car is getting in closed loop. Then check dwell.
Get some carb cleaner and spray it all in there while its running.
I'm sure you can do all that. Doesn't require many tools, just patients and a brain....er I mean-forethought.
Anyways--you can do it. Just post back what you find.

Re: help please
Just a little note, you could wire the choke open with a bread tie or such and start it to see if the car still dies when you give it a little gas. If it runs fine, then you know the choke is the problem. If you find out it IS the problem, you had better look at those new plugs again as they will probably be fuel fouled (black, wet on the insulator). I know it's kinda cheap, but would definately tell you if it were the choke giving you problems. Keep us posted.

Re: help please
well i thought vac leak too, but checked as i was doin the plugs and everything seemed fine. and believe me, that thing has seen plenty of carb cleaner... went out and checked again that night and the choke was workin fine, double and triple checked my wires and rotor, nothin. last night after work i dug in one more time, first problem, a mounting bolt was loose on the carb, HEELLLLOOOO vac leak! still wasnt running good so my last shot was the fuel filter. fixed it. musta got a bad tank of gas back in november when this started. startin to act up a little again today, so im gonna change it again, added some fuel system cleaner too. couple of stupid oversights on my part, but these things happen i guess. thanks for the replys and if it continues to act up ill be back!
