305, Fire, Fuel - No start

Hey guys. First time post... hope it works out!

I have an 1982 Firebird with the stock 305. I've had the thing running for a number of years and a couple years back, it died in winter and it's sat till this fall. I have now replaced the plugs, fuel, oil, filters, whole distributor stack, replaced the quadrojet with a Edelbrock 600 and adapter/spacer, new battery and mechanical fuel pump. The starter was not long replaced before it died. So most everything important is new.

So as the title says, it's not starting. I have fuel in the lines and to the carb, spark from the plug to the chassis... I had the distributor marked etc for installation of the new one, so it should be pretty darn close to where it should be.

I am no pro mechanic, nor know all the, if any, tricks of the engine game... but I am mechanically competent to try what ever may be suggested. I'd like to see if I can get my old bird flying again, without having to tow her to the shop...

Any ideas folks? Thanks in advance!

you replaced the computer control dizzy with a vacuum advance one right? if so and if you have fuel and spark, it could just be the timing is off. take out the #1 plug, and stick your finger in the hole, then have someone turn the engine over until you feel pressure or air blowing past your finger. then line up the timing mark. then see if the rotor is pointing to the #1 wire on the cap.

Correct. The new distributor is vacuum based where as the previous was an electric based cap. The vacuum is placed on the upper right (looking from the bumper in) vacuum port as that's what I've read is the better choice from the lower left.

I'll have to wait another couple days now... the snow decided to show up! X|
