manual choke?
ok so i had my rochester rebuilt, and also eliminated the cc functions to make it a manual carb, but we still have the electric choke on there. the choke is def. not working at all. is the electric choke computer controlled as well? a mechanic told us we need to replace the choke with an old style choke that runs off heat from the manifold because electric choke is cc. if thats the case anyone got a part # for this style choke? ill keep looking but am having trouble finding info so far.

Re: manual choke?
ok, jegs told me that the electric choke just has a hot wire running into it and theres an element inside the choke that tell the coil to expand or contract. so now im kind of at a loss. the electric choke doesnt appear to be adjustable currently, so dont know if i should just rebuild the electric, get a different electric, or go with the hot air choke
Re: manual choke?
Just get a new electric choke from an autopart store. You should already have the proper choke setup under the hood which would then just require you to plug it into your new choke and then just tune from there.
If for some reason your wires are all butchered up and you don't have the correct wires there, the easiest way to do it is just route a 12v 'hot only when the key is ON' wire to your choke. To do it the way the factory did it, requires going through an oil pressure switch but I'll let someone else explain that setup.
You're not running a CCC carb without the computer are you? If so, you need to do a search on here and read the 2,367 threads about why this is not going to work....

Re: manual choke?
the carb WAS a ccc qjet but it was rebuilt with all computer stuff disabled/removed/plugged etc (i cant remember all the details because it was several months ago and it was difficult for me to understand) the car idles (albeit high) and revs fine other than the choke issue and its fouling up the plugs from running so rich. . but we havent retarded the timing since these other issues came up..it was reading 12*btdc and something like 36ish total. its a vac.advance dist btw. oh right so back to the choke..it seems as tho there is alot of play with the rod and its connection to the butterfly valve the choke is getting power and the coil looks brand new really so im just kinda wondering if my linkage isnt right somehow..it still moves the butterfly when you manually move it but but doesnt want to stay where its supposed to..idk..sorry if i offend with my smartness (sarcasm)
