Normal Idle speed

Hi all. Just a quick one. Whats a normal idol, in neutral, for an auto 84?

I'm guessing around 800-850 as it is meant to drop to 650 in drive.

Cheers.

Jonno.

Re: Normal Idle speed

If your car still has the sticker on the hood, you should be able to read that manuals should idle around 700 RPMs and then autos should idle I think 650 in drive.

But going 800-850 RPMs down to 650 RPMs is quite the jump...

Yeah. It has 650. But that's in drive. Im just curious what people think it should be in park.

Look for the sticker on your hood. It should specify.

It does. But only while it is in drive.

Re: Normal Idle speed

it depends on your air fuel ratio, vacuum and advance at idle and the ability of you setup to compensate for the TC load, mine idles at 900 in park and drops to 750 in drive with the combo I have, a little higher idle is better as you get better oiling and better off idle response
