carb question
So I have a 350 sitting on my engine stand I want to put on a carburetor from say an 82 Camaro (cuz I'm broke and that's all's I can afford ) will it need an ecm in order to run? Or should I look for an older car for a carburetor? Any help is appreciated thanks

Re: carb question
I know this is going to sound crazy and is going to raise a few eye brows but your best bet is to go to your local junk yard and find a 70s ford with a two barrel those are identical to a holly 4412 and a 4412 is the spec carb required at almost every dirt track hobby stock class in the western U.S. they are easy to tune easy to build decent on fuel economy and my hobby stock makes over 350 hp with it and the best part is there are no electronics needed

Re: carb question
You cannot use the electronic ccc-qjet without the computer, at least not efficiently. It will run rich and burn gas like it still costs 99 cents a gallon.
Re: carb question
You can buy a non electronic Q-jet for cheap, probably as cheap as 5 or 10 bucks if you look around. Make sure you get one with the fuel inlet turned 90 degrees, not coming straight in. If you are using your stock manifold, you will need one with electric choke unless you want to do some plumbing.

Re: carb question
ok so what older car can i pull a carb off without having to get an ecm as well to make it run decently? cuz i know my junkyard sells them for 20 bucks a pop
Re: carb question
You'll want it off a Chevy (although Cadillac Qjets are the same configuration as a Chevy- Olds, Pontiac and Buick are different). You'll also want it with the round choke housing on the side (electric choke is best, but a hot-air style can be converted to electric later, if you want). You'll want to avoid the older QJets with the divorced choke element down on the intake, unless you plan to just wire the choke wide open all the time anyway. And make sure it has the same style throttle arm and throttle cable stud as whatever your car needs. The throttle cable studs differ over the years and are generally swedged in place and can't be removed/replaced without difficulty.
