DAMN CHECK VALVE

Faulty Fuel Filter Check Valve Cost Me A Tow Today,New Filter Just Installed A Few Months Ago,Looks Like The Heat And Fuel Distorted The Rubber And Wouldn't Let The Valve Open And Let Fuel To The Carb,I Removed The Check Valve And The Engine Started Right Up,I Won't Be Using Those Check Valves Any More.

Re: DAMN CHECK VALVE

I yank them EVERY time. They are as flaky as a bowl of Raisin Bran. Actually, what I do is pull the guts out of them and clip off the end. That leaves just the rubber "saucer" part to seal up the filter end against the fuel inlet PLUS just enough of the "neck" to keep it centered in the hole in the end of the filter.

If you can stomach the look, use an external fuel filter and just get rid of everything in the nose of the QJet.

Re: DAMN CHECK VALVE

Just swap in an old school AC filter without the check valve.

GF441 if your carb takes a long filter.
GF427 if your carb takes a short filter.

Re: DAMN CHECK VALVE

Again, a newbie question- so the GF441 filter can be used without the check valve?

The check valve that I have broke apart after pulling it from the old filter... thanks for your help!

Re: DAMN CHECK VALVE

The check valve (or lack thereof) comes with the filter. It's built into the inlet side of it.

Most generic replacement filters come with one built in. In my original post, I was merely describing how to remove it and make it function like an earlier filter that did not come with one originally.

Re: DAMN CHECK VALVE

Thanks for clarifying, Damon. The crap little replacement filter I bought doesn't even have a gasket on top, just a piece of paper!

The GF441 and GF 427 do not come with a check valve by design.

If your car takes a filter with a check valve, you DO NOT remove the check valve from the old filter and put it in the new filter. The new filter already comes with a check valve.
