Hey guys redoing the fuel system on the 87 bird. I know that the later carved motors had a electric pusher pump.
Is that still available?
I would like to install one. And then go with braided lines to the front. Into a mechanical fuel pump then filter and carb.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

If you are going to drop the tank, install a walboro 255lph pump and run the lines to a mallory 4309 or 4307 fuel pressure regulator and from there to the carb. This is how I fun my carb set up. It's much more reliable. There is no sense in going back to the dual pump idea if you can improve on it.
To your original question, yes, it's available. It's only a 3psi pump, but again, I highly recommend you that you don't go that route.

Or just install 1 good mech. fuel pump and be done.. Nothing more reliable or easy as that.
I ran a stock replacment 70/71 LT1 pump for years but started out running it and needed a helper pump. Ran that combo for a while then upgraded to a carter 172 gph speedway mech. pump and have no probs at all

Is the factory 5/16 return capable of bleeding off enough volume to use just the walbro 255 in-tank pump?

i have the stock original 2.8 pump on mine and a holley regulator, has run that way for over ten years now with no issues
Don't really want to run a regulator. As for fuel pump I have a carter muscle car pump.
Are the fuel lines on a carb car on the passenger side or do they crossover somewhere?

Carb car fuel lines come out on the passenger side frame rail.
On my 84 carbed car they run from the tank down the drivers side and cross over (return and feed) to the passenger side at the transmission.
The car was originally a tpi and we peiced it together for the summer. But now want to do it nicely.
So riped out every thing.and gonna start from scratch.
So when you say at the transmission do you mean at the firewall or behind the transmission.

Yeah. A big thanks for that pic.
So for the helper pump if I need it. Is it a dealer part or can it be had a any parts store?
Thanks

You should be able to pick it up at a parts store.Originally Posted by makaveli09

Hey ozz do you by chance have a brand name and part number for that pump. As we where not able to find a listing this morning at the store.
Thanks.
Also would a better pump like a edelbrock or carter competition pump make a difference??
Thanks.

OK, bad news. The link I had for it is gone. It just goes to a dead end now. Of course it was 7 years ago when I was considering doing what you want to so it may have been discontinued. Originally Posted by makaveli09

Here is the GM Service quote with the original Part Number. GM partsdirect doesn't carry this part number but your local dealership may be able to get it. I don't know.

Number: 84-174 Section: 6C Date: July, 1984 Subject: REDUCTION IN PERFORMANCE UNDER HARD ACCELERATION ON 5.0L HIGH OUTPUT V8 4BBL ENGINES (L69) Model and Year: 1983-84 CAMARO To: All Chevrolet Dealers
Some Camaros with the L69 engine may experience a reduction in performance in the form of hesitation or sag under hard acceleration. This condition usually occurs at high ambient temperatures when the engine is hot and may be due to fuel vapor lock. Vapor lock is temporary fuel starvation that is most likely to happen upon acceleration after a short soak or extended idle period.
To repair this condition, it will be necessary to install vapor lock fix kit, P/N 14085385. This kit utilizes a low pressure (3 psi) electric in-tank pump. The fuel vapor fuel fix kit has detailed instruction sheets for installing all parts found in the kit and for reworking existing grommets on the vehicle. The instruction sheets do not show parts that have to be removed in order to install kit parts. Use the appropriate shop manual procedures where indicated.
-----
If it is discontinued, you have two choices. Drop the helper pump altogether and just run the mechanical. More often than not, you'll be fine. My helper pump was dead for years and I never noticed it as the mechanical pump pulled right through it. I never had any vapor lock issues either.
Alternatively, and I know you don't want to, is do what I did, and replace both with a Walboro 255 and Mallory 4309 Regulator.
Good luck and I'm sorry that I wasn't any more help.
You where very helpful ozz.
Thank you very much.
