Accelerator plate? Is it needed

What does this part do? Is it needed. Adjusting linkage and was down at pedal. Saw this bracket and unsure exactly what I does. Manual doesn't say much either. Any help? Any one remove it?

Re: Accelerator plate? Is it needed

Of course it's not needed. GM always used to include a few White Elephant prize brackets, just to see if anyone was paying attention.

In all seriousness, I've removed that bracket a few times, and when I get around to bolting all the stuff back into my project, I'll bolt that bracket back in too. No clue what it's for, but I'm not one to leave something out unless there's a really good reason to do so.

Thank you. I just tested in driveway and then took it for a short cruise. Feels same. No different than before when it was installed.
