Re: '85 computer clicking

i'd love to help but i dont have a single clue what you're on about

so we've ascertained that you have an 85 with a CCC 305 in it.

is the"computer control box" you are referring to, the ECM thats clicking? i dont think i have ever heard an ECM clicking or making any sound audibly enough to be heard - are you sure you dont have an exhaust leak or something in the vicinity?

Re: '85 computer clicking

The engine is in all original low mileage 1985 Avanti. It has the 305 Camaro engine and 700R4 automatic. The clicking is coming from the control box mounted below the glove box under the dash. It sounds like a relay cutting in and out under acceleration, until the car warms up. Hope that helps.

Re: '85 computer clicking

GM B-body, Thanks for responding. It is a definite clicking sound that follows engine RPM until the car warms up.

Re: '85 computer clicking

there are no relays to click inside the stock ECM. in a non-fbody application we have no way to know what all is in your 'control box'.

best get up under there and identify the source. take some pics and post maybe?

Re: '85 computer clicking

Maybe the clicking of the CCC? It's quite loud and maybe sounds like from in the car.

edit: words I was looking for were: mixture control solenoid.

Re: '85 computer clicking

I agree with naf, better to get up under and try to get straight to the source. Try to pin point where the noise is coming from. I can also confirm the ECM is solid state so no moving parts. Do you have any idiot lights that are lit or blink along with the clicking, is the noise coming from the dash, engine or from under the car? Other than accelerating when cold is there any other time that it does the clicking? Let me know where and when and hopefully I might have an Idea as to what it is. You mentioned that you think its coming from the computer, where is this computer that you speak of located on a Avanti? Pictures or videos of the issues would be helpful.
