Throttle Response

The only carburated cars i've ever owned are my camaro's, so i really have nothing to relate to in terms of things working right.

Say i'm under the hood, the engine is running and i hit the accelerator. My 350 will iether studder, drop rpm, backfire, and die... or have a 1-2 second delay before it will rev up.
Now, i should mention that most of the wiring for it isn't hooked up (i believe the guy who did the swap used as much of the v6 harness as he could get away with, and left everything else unhooked) How bad is that affecting things?

My V6 doesn't ever seem to die when i gun it, but it studders and the rpm drops almost to the point of stalling before it revs. Also when the car shuts off, it sometimes deizels for a few seconds.

So... is this normal for carburated engines, or do i have some problems. Any advice would be appreciated.

BTW. Both engines have under 100k km, are in good shape, and are stock.

You have some problems.

Describe your 350 system in a little more detail (carb type, ignition type, engine mods, etc.). Also, how recent are the tune-ups (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, etc.) on both?

I would also check your timing, especially on the six.

The 350 is from a truck i think it's an 85 but am unsure. it's got a cc quadrajet, and the stock distributor. There are no mods as of yet, and due to the low temp outside, lack of garage, and no time, it's still covered in a thick layer of grease, grime and crap. So i can't help you as far as casting numbers etc.

I have not done any tuning to it since i bought it (last month) and have only run it a few times (moving it around in the driveway etc)
The guy i brought it from has probably never given it a tune up iether.

The 6 had a tune up last winter. I'll check the timing on it next time i bring it to the shop.

MY best guess for the 350 is that the guy didn't change the ecm, or whatever it has when he swapped. I think i'll just give up on it untill i pull it to rebuild later this month

A tune-up will do wonders for the way a carb works.

On the 350, though, your statement "most of the wiring for it isn't hooked up" is more likely your problem. That's a combination of ignition and carb things not working right. It's probably running in open loop default mode only.
