Air cleaner questions.
I am planning on swapping my 1989 Pontiac Firebird from its TBI setup to a quadrajet setup. I am already running a 14x3 inch air cleaner and was wondering if I would have clearance issues. I am sick of chasing electrical issues and figure that a few more cfm would not hurt anything. If any one has some experience with this I would love to hear it! Ideas for a different air cleaner setup if my current one won’t fit would also be appreciated.

Re: Air cleaner questions.
What issues are you having with TBI? IMO you are better off with the factory equipment. I ran an Edelbrock for years before swapping all the original feedback carb equipment back on.

Re: Air cleaner questions.
Super intermittent electrical issues. Bad idle, etc. It’s driving me crazy because I have checked or replaced these parts all of which can cause some of these issues.
IAV
Spark plugs and wires.
Cap and rotor.
Distributor
Coil
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Coolant Temp Sensor
EGR (bypassed)
I am sure I have forgotten some parts that I have replaced/checked. With all that being said I am tired of chasing problems and putting money into something that is expensive to upgrade or replace when I can pick up a rebuilt carburetor for $250 and a hei distributor for $100. Intake is another $230. Which will pretty much negate all my engine electrical issues and give me overall better performance, reliability, and give me pretty good efficiency. (Providing I stay out of the secondaries!) I don’t hate TBI and I will keep all the parts in case I need or want to switch back. If I had TPI I would probably be more willing to keep it but I can’t really justify in my situation keeping TBI on it.

Re: Air cleaner questions.
I ditched the big honkin Edelbrock air cleaner that came with my '90 TBI Camaro for similar reasons. I put this little thing made by Spectre on there. Routing wires around that scalding hot TBI intake has since gone from impossible to plausible. https://www.spectreperformance.com/4...ustom-assembly
If you're dead- set on going carb tho I have a quadrajet, intake and Delco distributor I took off an '86 Trans am. $500

Thanks for the reply! I would have gladly taken your offer two weeks ago but I ordered everything I would need last week! Thanks for the offer though!
