I'm running an Edelbrock preformer, ontop of a preformer intake. Works well for me, i know theres a strong holley group out there, but i like my preformer cuz it's simple, easy to install, and to adjust.
Hope this helps-

Is the car running right now? Any idea what carb is on it right now? What are your plans for the car (daily driver, weekend warrior, race only)? Why do you say you need a new carb?

If it's running now, your best budget bet is to stick with what you have. If it isn't running, a better idea as to why it isn't is needed. If you don't have any carb right now, we still need to know the answers to some of the questions above.

Sounds like you have a fairly minor choke problem. It can probably be made to work. A new carb would probably present more "issues" than fixing what you've got.

For primary daily driver with some kick to it, the gool ol' q-jet is hard to beat (even one for a 305). A performance intake, either GM or aftermarket, only helps it.
