Help with new Holley!!!!
Says here that the 0-80508S carb is a universal type to be used on a square-bore only. Use of adaptors on a spread-bore manifold may have an adverse effect on cylinder-to-cylinder distribution.
Then: Warning: This carb is NOT designed for use with ANY automatic overdrive transmission. If used on an automatic overdrive vehicle, severe transmission damage WILL result.
Does this mean I am screwed? I have both a Performer manifold (but I got that thin metal square-bore adapter) and I have a 700R4! This IS a vacuum secondary carb... why would it have problems with an overdrive tranny? Or are they just covering their butts?
------------------
1984 z28 w/ a 357 cu in. monster engine which is looking like the posterchild for Edelbrock... all the suspension stuff... 9-bolt posi disk is in... K&N filter... 93 octane...

I think you're stuck with the fuel distribution problem; that sux. Can you trade it in for a Holley spreadbore?
The GM overdrive automatics use a TV cable to control shifting and your Holley probably DOESN'T have the TV cable connection. I would think you should be able to look at an electronic Q-Jet and notice where the TV cable is hooked up and at what distance from the pivot point. If you can make the TV cable move in the same way with respect to throttle opening as it would with the Q-Jet, there's no reason why you would have any transmission problems.

I just don't get why they would print a big warning about use with an overdrive tranny if there is none... and I don't obviously see one! I wrote to their tech support, but who knows when they will get back to me.
This carb can be used on Fords and Chrystlers too, maybe it has something to do with one of those types of cars...

I've got a Holley and Torker II intake...and 700R4....
in fact MANY people here have Holleys...and 700R4s...don't worry
you just need to ad an adapter for the kickdown(TV) cable...
will cost you about 4 bucks and don't worry about the intake at all..
Its a direct bolt onto it.
if you have room under your hood, feel free to add a spacer for the carb, but not required.
included below is a pic of my Holley w/the TV cable attached. hope this helps.
if you have any other questions and i can help, e-mail me
