I don't understand... did you gain 48.6HP or 90.3HP? And was the only mod switching from a TBI to a carb?

------------------
1984 z28 w/ a 357 cu in. monster engine which is looking like the posterchild for Edelbrock... all the suspension stuff... 9-bolt posi disk is in... K&N filter... 93 octane...

The stock numbers are on the ground HP, stock HP from the 305 engine is listed as 170 in the book. The 140 is the ground HP from a stock 305. The mods to the engine I listed above. The only internal mod was the rockers, everything else is an external mod that produced 188HP to the ground. The estimated motor HP, since it's JUST an estimate was 230 +/- 10 HP. No way to get the engine HP from the chassis dyno really.

Ok..got pwrhse to fax me just the HP and Torq readings.

Shifting at 5500 @ 5 1/4* advance on the initial timing gears 1 thru 4 only, did NOT use 5th.

228.9 ft/lbs
185.7 Hp

only real engine mods are the 1.6 rockers, carb, intake and headers, under drive pulleys.

THose are some impressive gains.

Did you replace the computer controlled distributor with an older mechanical HEI or aftermarket distributor?

If not, you have even MORE ponies waiting to be unleashed!!! When the ECM sees that TBI unit isn't there any more it goes into "limp home mode," throws a check engine light and gives your computer controlled distributor a really weak adanvce curve (that is hard-wired into the ECM itslef- not the chip). That is, unless you have custom chip designed to work with this combo and eliminate that feature.

Well you'd be exactly right, except in this case you are not. I removed the ECM, and chip. It now has an msd ignition and billet distributor to go along with the carb and performer intake. Found the power run for Hp and torque, my mistake I misread some of the data..

shifting at 5500 1st thru 4th only, 5 1/4* degrees advanced on the timing.

185.7 HP
228.9 Torque.

Sweet. Now give that distributor a little twist and crank up the torque!
